We would like to welcome all of our new students and whaanau to MBS this term, Nau mai Haere mai! Although, it has not been the greatest start to the year our students have been able to engage in new learning and are getting to know their kaiako/teachers.  Our core values are ‘Kotahitanga, Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga and Rangatiratanga’ and we continue to encourage our tamariki to show these everyday. It is great to see our students enjoying our swimming pool and at lunchtime for the students who receive a special ‘Moana Pass’. We also have a special ‘Swimming Day’ event coming up and all our parents are welcome to attend. On Monday we will have a poowhiri to welcome all our new whaanau and students to the school. Mauri Ora kia tātou.

The year started out stormy and challenging for many. Ruma wha sends our aroha to those affected by the storms and flooding across the country. Here are some of our experiences that we wrote about.

PIIWAIWAKA WHAANAU!

RUMA TAHI – 1

We have enjoyed swimming in the pool especially on hot days.

We cannot wait for MBS swimming sports in week 7.

For writing and inquiry this week we focussed on “me”. When I look into the mirror what do I see? A few thoughts shared… Kaiyan: When I look in the mirror I see myself doing a cheeky smile, I look cool.

Daniel Ray: When I look in the mirror I see a puppet. Jude: When I look in the mirror I see my hair in my face. Lucy: When I look in the mirror I see a big smile on my face. Caetano: When I look in the mirror I see me doing the telescope. Esme: When I look in the mirror I see myself doing a Pukana.

We have enjoyed creating our rainbows for our whanau wall. We look forward to putting it together.

PIIWAIWAKA WHAANAU!

RUMA RUA  – 2

Children have been enjoying a variety of different books in our class over the past few weeks. A particular favourite has been Commotion in the ocean by Giles Andreae. They have made some wonderful collages of all the amazing creatures you can find swimming through the pages of the book.

PIIWAIWAKA WHAANAU!

RUMA TORU  – 3

Our tamariki read the the book The Rainbow Fish. We learnt how the rainbow fish shared his scales and then we wrote about what their rainbow fish liked to do in the ocean. As you can see, they did a fantastic job with their rainbow fish artwork.

PIIWAIWAKA WHAANAU!

RUMA WHA – 4

The year started out stormy and challenging for many. Ruma wha sends our aroha to those affected by the storms and flooding across the country. Here are some of our experiences that we wrote about.

One of our favourite reads this term has been Greedy Cat, by Joy Cowley. We shared this story with our new friends that will be starting in our class next week and made some cute collages to match!

Keeping active and enjoying the sunshine has been the focus for our inquiry this term. We are so lucky to have been making use of our school pool. Some of us can even float like starfish! We have also made our emotional well being a priority. Check out our “big breath” dragons we made to remind us to breathe when we are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed.

PIIWAIWAKA WHAANAU!

RUMA RIMA – 5

In Ruma Rima we started off the year with a blast! In  the Arts we drew pictures of our own personal profile. Our tamariki did a beautiful job using bright colours to draw and colored them in. Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon we enjoyed our swimming time. We learned to dive, to float and to put our faces in the water. There are a lot of skills to learn, especially feeling confident in the water. Lately we learnt to skip and hula hoop for fitness. At writing time we made sandwiches with healthy fillings. This was part of our student inquiry, learning about mindset and how to feed our brains and to keep healthy. We are looking forward to doing more fun activities in Ruma Rima!

TUII WHAANAU!

Our Tuuii whaanau had an amazing time exploring our new community Te Pane o Mataoho playground.

TUII WHAANAU!

RUMA WHITU – 7

This week we have been learning about a positive mindset. We learnt how we can change our mindset with our words. Then we reflected on our inquiry learning each day by discussing our ideas with friends and finding out solutions to our problems. Reflecting on growth mindsets daily is encouraging us to better manage ourselves and our emotions. We also look forward to bike days and like learning how to ride a bike with our friends.

TUII WHAANAU!

RUMA WARU – 8

Room 8 have enjoyed learning about the importance of being kind to ourselves and others. We learnt that it’s better to be a bucket filler rather than a bucket dipper. Here is our shared book response to one of our favourite stories ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’.

TUII WHAANAU!

RUMA TEKAU – 10

Room 10 has been learning to use positive mindsets (as part of our inquiry) to become more resilient.  They have been learning about the power of the word ‘yet’ to keep striving for excellence in all that they do. They are working on using this by being positive role models for their Tuakana-Teina class Rm 3, learning new things in class and outdoors.

TUII WHAANAU!

RUMA TEKAU MA TAHI – 11

Room 11 are off to a good start. We have been really enjoying all of our learning activities. We had an awesome time doing our first art project creating our pastel and watercolor artwork. We are really proud of the attention and hard-work we put into our work.

KERERUU WHAANAU!

Kereruu has had an awesome time over the past few weeks getting to know each other better, building relationships and getting into our learning routines. It has been amazing seeing tamariki engaged in learning and excited about what learning experiences are still to come.
