Welcome Back!
Welcome back to all of our tamariki for Term Two. We started the term with our Poowhiri for new students, families and whaanau. We officially welcomed Mrs Waitangi Tofilau as one of our new appointed Deputy Principals together with her family from Brisbane Australia who supported her on the day. We look forward to Haki Wilson who has also been appointed as one of our Deputy Principals at MBS. We will ensure to keep you updated of his starting date and poowhiri. We also welcome back Mrs Tigafua who will be teaching in Room 14 till the end of the year and has had a great start with her students.
Term 2 Student Learning Inquiry – Our Planet
Our Student Inquiry learning for Term Two is ‘Connecting with our Planet’ through the Science Curriculum and the strand is ‘Planet earth and beyond’. The student inquiry experts have already had an opportunity to share what they know through the ‘Student Inquiry Presentation’ led by Whaea Lauren who leads the Student Inquiry in the school.
New Governement Legislation and Policies
On behalf of the board we would like to thank our parents who gave feedback and commented on the ‘Cellphone and Other Personal Digital Devices Policy’ which started this term as part of lesgislation from the NZ Government. The feedback has helped to shape our new school policy together with the MOE guidelines. You can find this on www.schooldocs. We have also uploaded onto our school website the Privacy Impact Assessment. Please refer to the link. https://www.mangerebridge.school.nz/privacy-impact-assessment-pia-for-cctv-cameras-in-schools/ We continue to implement the requirement of teaching an average of ‘one hour a day’ of reading, writing and maths, pānui, tuhituhi, and pāngarau as part of school’s readiness. This term we have ERO coming to our school with a new partnership approach and an ERO Partner assigned to work together with the school and the community over three years.
Term 2 Events
We have lots of exciting and special events happening this term that include NZ Sign Language Week, Samoan Language Week held in Week 5, School Trip to Startdome, Matariki Celebrations and Matariki Disco with PTA, Parent Partnership/Parent Interviews, MId-year School Reports, Pink Shirt Day, Support Staff Day, Whole School Camp Sleepover 1 night only, Te Hiaroa Matariki Market, Teacher Only Day and much much more. NZ Sign Language Week
6 – 10th May
|
|
We look forward to acknowleding and celebrating NZ Sign Language week from 6 – 10th May. Our students will have an opportunity to learn throughout the week. Every May, Deaf Aotearoa takes centre stage to organise New Zealand Sign Language Week, a vibrant celebration of one of the country’s official languages, alongside te reo Māori. Have a go!

Teacher Only Day
Friday 31st May – School will be closed!
|
Our next Teacher only day will be held on Friday 31st May with other teachers from the Kaahui Ako Community of Learning. The Ministry of Education set a number of Teacher Only days for schools to support staff with planning and professional development. The school will be closed for insturction on this day. We will send out another friendly reminder closer to the time and encourage you to prepare for your children who will not be coming to school.

Student Inquiry Launch Experts
|
Our 10 student inquiry team of experts did a great job with the Student Inuiry Launch. They had been practising with Whaea Lauren to prepare and share their presentation which was very interactive and informative. The whole school were invited and they really enjoyed learning more about our planet.

Whole School Camp Sleepover
‘Night Under the Stars’
Save the Date – Thursday 4th July
|
On Thursday 4th July in Term 2 (second to last day of Term) we will be having a Whole School sleepover. It aligns with our Maatariki Celebrations and our Student Inquiry learning about Space and our planet. There will be more information coming with regards to the organisation to ensure our students have a safe and enjoyable evening. This will include health and safety guidelines.

Samoan Language Week 2024

2024 Theme for Samoa Language Week is ‘Tautua i le alofa mo se lumana’i manuia’ ‘Serve in love for a thriving future’. This theme comes from the overaching theme of ‘Sustainability’

Samoan language week is in Week 5 and we will begin with an operning ceremony as a whole school assembly held on Monday 27th May at 9 am. Our students will take participate in other activities learning about the Samoa culture and language. We will then finish with a whole school assembly on Thursday 30th May at 2 pm where our students will be performing a range of items. The next day is Teacher Only Day on Friday 31st May. Year 6 School Camp
Tuesday 29th – Thursday 31st October

We would like to say thank you parents for attending the Year 6 Camp Parent Information evening on Wednesday. The parent letter will be emailed to all year 6 Parents. This will include all the information required and we will continue to keep you updated. If you are interested in being a parent helper you will need to email Bernicem@mangerebridge.school.nz as soon as possible so that the school can complete the vetting forms. At this stage we only require 7 parent helpers as we have the Year 6 staff attending and Senior Leadership. There have already been parents interest so please ensure to let me know. Parent Helpers do not need to pay for the camp. There will be an opportunity for parents to visit the camp site on Thursday evening for a concert.
Details of the Year 6 Camp:
Where: Ngarauwahia – Camp Waipa CYC (Christian Youth Camp). When: The Camp will be held on Tuesday 29th – Thursday 31st October (3 days and 2 nights) Costs $250 per student. We are going to do our best to reduce the cost of the camp through grant applications. The cost covers the transportation, accommodation, food, staff, specialist instructors for some of the activities. The activities range from Archery, Raft building, Hydro slide, Flying Fox, Kayaking and Paddle boats, Mini Golf, Pool, Craft Climbing, Climbing Wall, Bushwalk and mudslide. All water activities will require specific adult supervision for health and safety.

PTA have a Mothers day competition happening with amazing prizes for a few lucky Mothers/Mother figures/role models. This will be drawn on Friday 10th May at our school assembly. There have been FB posts on our school page so check them out too. All the best to all our amazing Mothers.

Parent Partnership Meetings

We will have our Parent Partnership Meetings (Parent Interviews) held on Tuesday 2nd July and Wednesday 3rd July. School will finish early on Tuesday at 1 pm. More infromation will be sent out for you to book a time online for a 15 minute Meeting with your child’s classroom teacher. The mid-year school reports will be sent out the day before the Parent Partnership Meetings. We look forward to our students also sharing about their student inquiry learning and their progress in learning of the core curriculum areas (reading, writing and maths).
